FORMAT

The format used at Kew Gardens is a box ladder. A box ladder is where players are placed in a box and over the course of 1 month (called a cycle), players play against as many players as they can in that box.

NEW THIS YEAR

This year there are 4 (1 month) cycles. At the end of each cycle, players will be moved up or down or stay in that same box based on their results from each cycle through the following criteria.

  1. Total Wins
  2. Win Loss Percentage
  3. Head to Head
  4. Total Points
  5. Total numbers of games won

CYCLE DATES

Cycle 1: June 1 - June 30 (break July 1 - July 2)

Cycle 2: July 3 - July 31 (break Aug 1 - Aug 2)

Cycle 3: August 3 - August 31 (break Sept 1 - Sept 2)

Cycle 4: September 3 - September 30

Winners for all groups will be announced at the end of the 4 cycles.

RULES

Tennis matches are one pro-set, no-ad scoring or 1 hour in length (whichever comes first). The first player to win 8 games or is winning at the 1 hour mark wins. At 7 – 7, a seven point tiebreaker will be played. A game or a tiebreaker must be finished for it to count. The result is based on the last completed game.

Players are required to play a minimum of 2 matches each cycle otherwise they will drop down a box regardless of the circumstances. (i.e level of play, injury, absence or inability to schedule matches)

When your match is complete, players report results on the score sheets displayed in the clubhouse.

Both players must supply a can of NEW balls at the beginning of the match. The loser keeps the used balls and the winner the new balls.

Disqualifications of a match will result in a loss for the following reasons

  • 15 minutes late for a scheduled match
  • Less than 24 hour notice cancelling a match
  • Unable to finish a match
  • Not showing up for a match

Matches resulting in a disqualification must be recorded as a DQ on the score sheets in the clubhouse and will result in a win for the other player. No points are awarded for the player disqualified.

POINT SYSTEM

Win = 4 points, Loss = 1 point, Tie = 2 points, DQ = 0 points
