Registration for all Junior Membership and Programs opens February 1, 2024

KEW KIDS AFTER-SCHOOL SPRING PROGRAM

The After School Program registration requires pre-payment & email confirmation for a Kew Junior Membership Fee ($35 + HST) payment prior to selection of the Junior program.  Once you receive your confirmation for payment of your junior membership, please return to the Portal to select your program.

Registration opens February 1st, 2023

The Spring After-School Program has been a longstanding program at Kew Gardens Tennis Club. We run the full pathway of programming for children aged 5 - 15. We also offer options in both Development & Competitive Streams. Please note, if you have not participated in our competitive programming in the past please do not register until you reach to our Head Tennis Professional, Ira Sherman, for approval at headpro@kewgardenstennis.ca

AGE NOTICE - The After-School Program is offered for ages 5 - 15.

Please note that all cancellations and changes are subject to the policies below:
  • All cancellations must be made in writing by email.
  • Refunds, less a $10.00 administrative charge, will be issued for all cancellations up to 2 weeks prior to the first day of the session.
  • Refunds are NOT available within the 2 week period prior to the first day of the session.
  • Refunds for medical reasons are available only upon presentation of a doctor’s certificate, however, once the program has begun, no refunds will be issued.
  • Pro-rated refunds are NOT available for days absent, or other services not fully utilized. The full session’s fees are due and payable if a child is registered and attends any part of a session. 
  • No refunds once the program has begun.
RAIN POLICY - PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING
Each program has a rain make-up date. If more than one class is cancelled due to rain there are no additional make-up dates and no refunds for that class issued.
If 60 minutes or more of the class has been completed prior to any rain it counts as a session and will have no rain make-up.


COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

(AGES 7 - 15)

This program is based on the Tennis Canada, “Long-Term Athletic Development” (LTAD) pathway. The competitive stream helps players acquire the skills and tactics for competitive tennis and tournament play. This program focuses on developing "global" skills - tactical, technical, physical and psychological. All competitive programs have a 4:1 player to coach ratio. 

Please contact the Junior Program Co-ordinator to receive a registration code before registering for Competitive programming so we can ensure your child is playing at an appropriate level for the group.

RED BALL

(AGES 5 - 7) 

Red 1: In this stage children are learning the basic motor and co-ordination skills. For this class 19" to 21" racquets are recommended. Skills that students are taught in this class include, underhand and overhead throwing, catching, learning to hit a dropped ball, volleying and underhand serve in the ½ court. 

Red 2:  In this stage children are now able to exchange a few rallies over the mini-net. Rackets recommended are 21" to 23'. Children play independently and learn to exchange with one another through fun and engaging cooperative games that will prepare them for future competitive play. The program teaches the 5 fundamentals of tennis (grip, set up, impact point, hitting zone & recovery.

ORANGE BALL

(AGES 8 - 10)

In this stage children are taught to have basic exchanges from either the mini court or 18 meters (3/4 court). In this class 23″ to 25″ racquets are used, stage 2 balls that are low compression. Skills that are taught in this class include groundstroke rallies, overhead serve, volley and basic footwork.

This is for kids playing with either a green ball or a regular tennis ball on a full size court. Players will be assessed on the first day and will be placed in the appropriate group/ball.
